Mince Lies - The Mince Pie Alternative To Please Everyone!
Mince pies... do you love them or hate them? I'm not a fan and always felt I was missing out on a traditional festive treat when they were passed around so I took matters into my own hands and made something that looks like a mince pie on the outside but hides all sorts of delicious secrets on the inside... the "Mince Lie".

The Mince Lie is the perfect mince pie alternative. Crumbly sweet pastry, soft gooey brownie topped with runny salted caramel, fluffy marshmallows, delicious Nutella... wherever your fancy takes you!

If you have mince pie foes in your friends and family circle, make them a batch of Mince Lies so they can join in and enjoy a modern twist on an age-old Christmas classic.

Enjoy! xx

Mince Lie Recipe

Recipe makes 12 Mince Lies but you will likely have some pastry left over and small amount of brownie mix so make a couple more if you have a spare tin :)

Pastry Recipe
375g plain flour
260g butter (we use salted but you can use unsalted if you like things even sweeter)

Rub between fingertips until mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Then add -

125g caster sugar
1 large egg

Beat until it starts to come together and then finish bringing together using your hands. Wrap in cling film and chill until it has firmed up (10-15 mins should be fine)

Brownie mix
125g butter (we used salted but unsalted is also fine)
125g dark chocolate

Melt in microwave in 30 second bursts, stirring each time then add -

185g caster sugar
60g plain flour
25g cocoa powder
2 large eggs

Mix together until combined.

*You will also need 1 egg beaten for the egg wash*

Preheat the oven to 200C fan.

Roll out pastry onto a floured surface, cut out 10cm circles and press into a floured cupcake tin.

If you have any overhanging edges, trim these with a palette knife.

Use an ice cream scoop or two spoons to add brownie mix to the pastry cases.

Add your choice of toppings - we chose salted caramel, Nutella and peanut butter. Marshmallows and chocolate chips are also delicious! Or leave them as pure unadulterated brownie if that's your jam. You do you, boo!

Next, cut out 7cm circles of pastry. Brush egg wash around the edges of the pastry cases and press the 7cm circles onto the tops to seal.

Brush egg wash over the tops of the Mince Lies and pierce each one with a sharp knife.

Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

Leave to cool in the tins for 5-10 mins.

To remove from the tin, run a thin palette knife around the edge of the Mince Lies to loosen then lift out.

Serve warm with cream or ice cream.

They are also excellent at room temperature!

These will last up to 5 days when covered with cling film.
