Forbidden Croque Madame Sandwich Recipe
This sandwich is so delicious, it should be banned! Croque Madame is traditionally a classic French sandwich that's a variation of the Croque Monsieur. It's made by layering slices of ham and cheese between two slices of bread, typically brioche or white bread. This version is so decadent that it should be forbidden! (in a good way). I made one very large one in the video but the recipe calls for 2 medium ones.
What sets the Croque Madame apart is the addition of a fried or poached egg on top of the sandwich. This egg is what gives it the "Madame" distinction, as it relates to a woman's fertility.
Now, delving a bit deeper into this delightful dish, it's believed to have originated in France in the early 20th century. It's often served with a creamy béchamel sauce, which adds a rich and velvety texture to the sandwich. The combination of the runny egg yolk, the savory ham and cheese, and the luscious béchamel sauce makes the Croque Madame a truly indulgent treat for your taste buds. You will find this dish in many Parisian bistros.
It's a favourite among brunch enthusiasts and foodies alike, offering a harmonious blend of flavours and textures. It also makes a great breakfast. While it may seem simple on the surface, the artistry lies in perfecting the balance between the crispy exterior and the gooey, decadent interior. Enjoy this forbidden culinary adventure today.
